## The Problem

DICOM is *the* international standard for medical images and related information (ISO 12052). It defines the formats for medical images that can be exchanged with the data and quality necessary for clinical use. DICOM is used in almost every medical domain and by almost every medical imaging device manufacturer.

Despite the prevalence of DICOM, the standard's documentation is challenging to navigate, and the relationships between entities are difficult to follow.

## The Solution

In an effort to make the standard more navigable for software developers and users, we developed the DICOM standard browser, which is [freely available online](https://dicom.innolitics.com/). This tool is used by many thousands of developers around the world every month.

We have written [introductory articles](https://innolitics.com/articles) about DICOM and have published several open-source [DICOM tools](http://dicom-numpy.readthedocs.io/en/latest/) that we have developed over the years.
